The two planned to elope on the day of Lin Qingqiu's wedding, but they were tricked, and each received a farewell letter, leading them to mistakenly believe the other had abandoned them. Thus, they parted ways. A year later, Lin Qingqiu in pursuit of his lost love became the magistrate of Jinzhou County while Lu Nanyi became a famous storywriter.
